Nikon D5100 Sports Mode Problems?

Jin

I take pictures of my son's basketball games. The games are indoor and have florescent lights and is very well lit. I haven't had problems until now. I use the Sports mode on my Nikon, and lately it's been taking pictures a little dark with a red hue on either the top or bottom part of the picture. This happens either if I shoot 1 picture or shoot continuously. The only difference is that shooting continuously, the red hue on the picture gets bigger. Does anyone know what's going on with my camera?

To be honest, I'm surprised with that lighting - for a school gym that's excellent.

Your best bet is going to be to get in touch with Nikon. That, I would say, is a sensor problem. You did mention the age of your camera so if it's out of warranty any repair will cost you. If for some reason the sensor is gone you'd might as well replace the camera rather than repair it because it'll be a few hundred for the repair.

Best of luck and if you do need to buy a new camera, try Canon. I shoot only Canon and love them but to each his own.

Its probably time to do a master reset on your camera. You may have made a change to the settings without realizing it.

Whether or not my D90 has a sports mode, I have no clue as I never use anything but PSAM as I want control of the camera. In my view, those auto modes are just a crutch to turn your camera into a point & shoot.

While sometimes those modes are warranted (say you have a limited photo opportunity and don't have time to think of how to setup the camera), the more you get used to using PSAM, the less you will have to rely on those modes.
