Generally wide angle lenses are the norm for landscapes. On the D5100 that means a lens with a focal length below around 28mm. The standard 18-55 kit lens includes this in the range and will be great for landscapes.

Any DSLR including that one, is capable of landscape photos, with the correct lens. If you have the 18-55mm kit lens, it will do for landscapes.
