Nikon d5000 still worth buying?

So I want to buy a dslr, I've been wanting one for a few years now but I finally saved up and can finally afford one, preferably less than $650 though, but I may be okay with a bit more if its worth it.

Right now I'm leaning towards the Nikon d5000 or canon t3i/t2i. I know these cameras have been out for a few years already so are they still worth buying? Is three anything around the same range worth getting instead? Also, if I buy it and don't like it, would it be relatively easy to sell back on say eBay or Craigslist?

The D5000 is in reality two models behind. Other than the US, the D5200 is now shipping (will be available in the US in Jan).

I would go for the most current model available for your budget. You will probably have the camera 5yrs or so, and if you buy a design already 3 or 4 years old, the camera will be ancient in 5 yrs.

The D5000 is a decent camera, but is rather dated at this time. It's successor the D5100 is a much better camera and since the 5200 is on the way, the 5100 is very reasonably priced at this time. If you're in the US, check Wal Mart or Nikon's online store and you can get the 5100 kit with the 18-55 lens for $549.
