My Nikon D5100 shutter sound is weird?

I dropped my camera a few days ago and a common problem is that the mirror would get lodged or stuck because of the two prongs, screws, whatever they are called. So i then go it out and it moves freely. But another problem happened after is that my shutter sound is completely different. It sounds more whiny and not normal.

It needs professional repair.

Expect to pay $150 at the minimum,
and possibly up to about $200 per hour,
to have it done.

At some point, the cost might approach the price of a new camera body.
How much is too much is up to you.

This is why nothing should ever be dropped,
which is one reason for camera straps.

Yes, it is always possible that every precaution will fail
and a camera will hit the ground,
but conscious prevention is still worth all the trouble
in most situations.

Wow.

Dropping a camera is very rare these days since they all come with neck straps and since the are a rather expensive device, most people take extra care not to bang or drop their cameras and lenses.

If the camera landed hard enough to damage the camera, I would be surprised that no damage was done to the lens as well.

I would send the camera into Nikon for repair.

A while back, I got hammered by two linebackers when shooting on the sidelines at a football game.

After that event, my auto-focus became erratic and I sent it into Nikon for repair.

They replaced the complete auto-focus system, base plate and shutter. They also cleaned, lubricated and calibrated the camera. The cost? Under $240.

Whining shutter means that the shutter mechanism needs to be repaired or replaced. Expect to spend $250-$350 for the repair.
