Is the Nikon D90 outdated?

My friend is selling her Nikon D90 for $380 with the 18-105mm lens. She has taken well care of it and is only selling it to me for $380 because I'm her good friend. Should I buy it or is the Nikon d90 too outdated? I currently have a Canon T2i and the Nikon would be a step up from beginner level.

You're getting an $800.00 camera for a little under $400. There's nothing outdated about it if you want to practice photography. And there will ALWAYS be a new model coming out eventually.

Not at all.

I have friends that are birders who still use the D90 and have spent their extra money on more lenses. Eventually some of them will buy the updated D7100, but the D90 is still a fine camera

Here is how its sensor performs vs the T2i/550D

What you have to ask yourself is what camera system to you want long term. Once you decide, then do not jump to a different brand later. Changing camera systems just costs too much.
