Inexpensive macro lens for nikon d80?

Upgraded to digital lately but my lens now are a bit distorted. So I'm looking for a good basic lens for walking about where I won't have to be switching lenses constantly (already have a telephoto). I'm leaning towards f/2.8 for a cleaner picture and a tameron because I'm on a budget.

This will depend on your idea of inexpensive but an F2.8 lens that is good for walking around is not going to be cheap. Also a macro lens is a fixed focal length lens. Generally either 50 or 100mm. While they are fine for most other things they don't zoom and a designed for macro work. These are not cheap either.

Nikon 105mm F2.8 micro $890
Nikon 60mm F2.8 Micro $460

Sigma 105mm F2.8 macro $730
Tamron 90mm F2.8 macro $460

I think you may have the term "macro" confused. Macro lenses are prime, flat field lenses used for shooting images at image to subject ratios of 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 and 1:4 as well as used as a normal lens when shooting out to infinity.

A good used Nikkor AF 55 mm f/2.8 or AF 60 mm f/2.8 lens will fit that category.

I found some AI 55 mm f/3.5 macro lenses for under $150. Since all macro photography is usually shot in the manual focus mode in any case, buying a manual focus lens is not going to be a big deal. If auto-focus is still a priority for you, I found a 60 mm f/2.8 lens for under $400.

Look on craigslist in a city near you or on Adorama or B&H Photo websites for used lenses.

On the other hand, if you want just one "walk-around" lens, the 18-200 mm VR is that lens, but you will not be able to shoot closeups.

You really need to decide which you need, a macro or wide range zoom lens.

Now to the f/2.8 issue.

There are two lenses that you may like to use, but neither are inexpensive. The 24-70 mm f/2.8 and 70-200 mm f/2.8. Since you already have a telephoto, my guess is that the 24-70 f/2.8 will be more to your liking if you can fit it in your budget
