You can download a free PDF user manual for your D50 as well as any other Nikon digital camera. The nice thing about having a PDF version of a manual on your computer is that you can use the "search" option in Acrobat to find exactly what you need to know

Press the Menu button, select Image quality, select NEF, select OK. Now, go download your manual.
