How to get this effect while filming?

I'm filming something for coursework in school, and i want to get an eerie feeling via colours. I want to get a dull/bluey colour on the film. Is there anyway to do this with the settings on my camera? I'm filming with a Nikon D5100.

I hope i'm getting the message across, i'm not really sure how to articulate it.

It's better to do it when you edit the video. If you try to put a color filter on a digital camera, the camera will try to compensate for it, thus negating the effect.

I guess you could use a custom white balance, and deliberately underexpose. But since you will probably be editing the video anyway, what's the point?

Look up "Day for Night editing techniques" on google.

Here's an AfterEffects tutorial I found: http://www.videocopilot.net/tutorial/day_to_night_conversion/

Or you can play around with White Balance.
