The first dSLR EVER to have video was the Nikon D90, introduced three and a half years after your fine D50 was introduced.
Something tells me you made some assumptions when you bought the D50.
Take a look on this link and see which Nikon dSLR's have video and when you are ready to upgrade in a few years, you can get one with the video feature if that is what you really want
