How to take RAW photos on my Nikon d5100?
I'm trying to take photos of the stars with my Nikon d5100 so that I can stack them for a better picture. I need the photos in RAW format and I don't know how to change the settings on my camera so that I take RAW photos.
How difficult can it really be? You have the Manual that came with your camera, don't you? Just look up NEF (RAW) in the Index.
Read your manual. Obviously you haven't done that yet
Did you still have your Owners Manual? If so than why haven't you picked up and started reading your Owners Manual? The Owners Manual covers so much basic camera operation including on how to set the camera to Raw Format
Try looking in the Index under Image Quality which you would be able to find the page that covers this subject.

On any camera you go to the menu button and activate it and read thru the various settings until you come to the setting for Raw or JPEG files. Or you could do it quicker. (read the manual!)…
Try Reading your Owners Manual. The Manufacture includes the Owners Manual for a Reason which covers so much Basic Information about the Camera where you would had discovered the Answer to your Question simply by Reading your Owners Manual
BTW: KTS answer came from both Petra Au and Nick P where KTS had cut and pasted into a single answer which obviously KTS has no idea about cameras especially from taking parts of answers from other people.
Amazing how unhelpful some people can be eh! Smart a%^$!
this is the most funny conversation I have ever read in an help side. Like parents shouting at their kid for how dumb they are xD
