Hd camera isn't working?

I have a Nikon D5000 and when i take a video with it and upload it to my computer it says that the video is 720p but it looks more like 480p or 360p. I use iMovie as well.
Can someone please help me fix this problem.

It is 720p. The HD standard is only for resolution not video quality.
Video quality depends highly on user skill. The camera is only a tool. Learn to shoot under optimum lighting conditions only. Cameras work best under great light.
