Could you advise me on the best Nikon DSLR? - 1

Added (1). I'm a senior student at the art academy and work a lot with photography and video, it is time for me to get my own. I've had the D5100 on my list for years, but now I'm getting into it, I read alot about D7100. At this time, all the choices are overwhelming.

I need a good quality, advanced/professional handling DSLR that can shoot HD video and has good price/quality, cause I'm still a student. My budget is 1000,-. (maybe I can push it to 1200,- max.

What would you advise me?

Probably a Pentax, but I'm biased.

Look at All the alternatives, and work out the DSLR that's best for you - you're the one who has to shoot with it.

Get a D7200 body plus the new Nikon 16-80mm f2.8-4 AF-S VR lens.

Oh, the budget.
Get the D7100 bundled with 18-140mm AF-S VR.

The Nikon D7100 is a more robust camera (metal chassis and environmental seals to keep dust and moisture out of the camera) and it can auto-focus with the older (and less expensive) Nikkor AF lenses, although the newer Nikkor AF-S lenses do focus faster

If you save your pennies a while longer, the D7100 is the better choice.

ALL current digital SLR cameras can shoot not only HD video but Full HD video, but it is not recommended if your goal is to shoot video. For that you really need a video camera since it is specifically designed for that purpose and has features NO digital SLR has * Genlock, * XLR microphone inputs with 48v phantom power, * 48kHz/16-bit 4-channel digital audio, * built-in SMPTE time code generator/reader, 3 sensors and others

The D7100 is probably good considering your budget. D7200 has some fancy gimmicks and an ever so slightly better sensor but the D7100 is very good. Very good upgrade from the D5100. You can find new ones on ebay for $900
