I'm looking at buying my first DSLR camera and i can't decide between a nikon D90 or D5000. Does anyone have any ecperience with these cameras and can possibly offer pros and cons on them both?

I own a D90.It is a classic camera.

The D90 is an advanced amateur camera. The D5000 is an entry level camera.

While they are both 12MegaPixel cameras, the D90 has a whole host of features the D5000 lacks, including;

--- in-camera focus motor (so it can autofocus AF and AF-S lenses - the D5000 can only autofocus AF-S lenses)

--- speedlight flash remote commander (to control external flash units wirelessly - the D5000 requires a $250 accessory to do so).

--- fp high speed synch (allows up to 1/4000sec shutter speeds with a Nikon speedlight)

--- better build quality, top view LCD, longer battery life, and many other features.

There are still new ones available, and I had heard that the D90 was discounted to the $500 level, but I can't seem to find one for that price. If you look used, you will see that the D90 retains a good resale value, which is also an indicator of a good camera.
