35mm SLR to complement a DSLR?

Please advice me into buying a 35mm SLR to complement a DSLR, using the same lens. Buying one would mean buying into their whole range. I'm thinking of getting full frame for the price of nothing using a 35mm film scanner.

I'm a big fan of Nikons because their buttons layout, ergonomics and price. I sold all my kit wanting to get a full frame DSLR. I had a D90 and a bucket full of lens. But things happened and i'm back to the drawing board again, only with no money for a full frame.

I've researched Minoltas and they don't seem to cut enough mustard, since they changed their mount in the '80s. Nikon again seems to lead with their FE and FM3a.

Any other suggestion?

I'd be tempted to take a close look at the FM10

How about the used market?

You know Canon also changed their mount when they went to the EOS autofocus system too.

Pentax is the other brand that can still use lenses from the 50's, even more so than Nikon. They tend to be less expensive than the Nikons as well.

You say
"I'm thinking of getting full frame for the price of nothing using a 35mm film scanner."

How does that work? I use 35mm film in 2 Canon EOS SLRs and scan the negatives. The image quality is different to my 2 APS-C DSLRs but is isn't better. Using the same lenses and 100ASA film the 35mm scans are not as crisp and sharp as the DSLR. Obviously the scanner has a great influence on this but the film grain size is the limiting factor.

But if that is the way you want to go then I use Canon. You can get decent EOS 35mm SLR bodies for around £20/$30 and use them with Canon EF lenses that also work with Canon DSLRs. The EOS 50E (aka Elan II) is an exceptionally good body that shares and has full functionality with the IR remote, cable remote, EF lenses and EX Speedlites I have for my Canon DSLRs.

NB Canon EF-S lenses are not compatible with film SLRs.
