DSLR Video time limits?

I'm still looking for a entry level dslr that will shoot in full1080p. I need one that doesn't have a limit on filming at one time? Well not unlimited but longer than say 15 mins. I was looking a nikon one but it only shoots 10min video at i time and i would need it to be longer than that? Any suggestions for cameras that will do this? Preferably within the lower price range as i don't have thousands to spend on cameras!

I don't know of any DSLR which does not use a 32bit FAT file system. That will limit you to a 4GB maximum single file size. With a 4GB limit and full HD 1080p you won't do much better than 20 minutes on a single clip.

According to Camera Labs the Nikon D5100 has a maximum length of 20 minutes: http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Nikon_D5100/movie_mode.shtml

The D5100 is a bit more expensive than the D3100, but is well worth the extra as it has the excellent sensor from the D7000.It is brilliant for low light high ISO work.

The D5100 also has the advantage of being able to take an external optional microphone, which can be mounted on the hot shoe. You don't have to buy the Nikon one and there are plenty available for much less. The external mic would help cut down on autofocus noise, which is quite noticeable on many DSLR videos.

The camera is available for £485 with 18-55mm VR lens at the moment from Amazon:

If you can afford a bit more, a better option would be the D5100 with 18-105 VR lens for £580:

Jessops also give you the option of paying 25% down up front and then paying the balance over 10 months on interest free credit.

If you don't want to spend £85+ on the Nikon microphone, there are good alternatives. For example:

The Canon Rebel T4i is able to shoot 29 minutes and 59 seconds at a time - tho it does split the clip into 4gb segments due to the formatting of the files on the card.

The time limit thing has to do with taxation issues in Europe and it isn't a physical issue any more. They can put out connected 4gb clips of any length but the taxation would increase the price of the camera by 30% if they went over 30 minutes.

You can find the Canon Rebel T4i at places like B&H - http://www.bhphotovideo.com/.../KBID/3910

We also have plenty of DSLR video training - http://blog.planet5d.com/training if you're interested - some free resources and some are fee based.
