I want add lenses later on so which would be a better option for me. A camera like 550D or new D5200 which have so many good features

Yes, it does. The 550D would be the best choice though. It has 17.9 MP vs the D5200's 5 MP. The 550D can also shoot 24p movies. It also has a built in focus motor, and a larger LCD screen. It shoots faster. It can also shoot RAW. The D5300 can't shoot RAW. In all, I believe you will enjoy the 550D much better. Good luck!

Forget the above, I'm sorry, I was looking at the Nikon 5200. Haha

No it doesn't. If you want autofocus lenses you'd need to buy Nikon AF-S lenses (or Sigma HSM lenses).

If you manually focus a lens, no limit to your choice of lenses.

Nothing worng with manually focusing a lens though - it's what I had to do years ago (and now) when I shoot my older film cameras.

Just to clarify Jonathan's confusing answer, no the D5200 does NOT have a focus motor - check on Nikon's webpage!

The Nikon D5100 does not have a focusing motor in the camera body. The only lenses that will auto focus on it are Nikon's AF-S lenses and ones by Sigma, Tamron and Tokina that have a focusing motor in the lens.

The Nikon D90 and D7000 are their lowest-priced DSLR bodies that have a focusing motor in the camera body.

No Canon DSLR has a focusing motor in the camera body. All Canon lenses have a focusing motor.

Nikon does not have built-in autofocus motors in the bodies of their entry level DSLRs, such as the D3100, D3200, D5100, & D5200. For that feature you'll need to look at the D90, D7000, and above.

But, truth be known, zero percent of Canon DSLR's have built-in autofocus motors in their bodies. This holds true for everything from their Rebel beginner lines to their top-of-the-line professional models.

A great option for you might be the D90 or D7000.
