I'm leaning towards buying the Canon 70D with the 18 to 135mm and 70 to 300mm lens

but i just want some honest opinions about Canon dslr's

are they as good as Nikon? What about the lenses?

If someone here uses Canon, their opinion is biased. If someone uses Nikon, their opinion is biased. There are tons of professional camera review sites online. That is where you get unbiased FACTS, not opinions. Digital Photo Review is arguably the best site for such reviews:

Another excellent site is DXO Mark where you can do side by side comparisons between cameras and lenses.

I have used Canon DSLR gear for many years with no problems and complete satisfaction, … But see, that is a biased opinion is it not?

Have a look at this:

Each DSLR model will have it's own advantage over another brand or model.
The BEST model for you is the one that you like the most. Period.

It depends on what subject you are choosing, however this said Canon and Nikon are still the best two to go for, canon is brilliant, got my first dslr from there, 60d and love it!

It's a great camera - as would be any DSLR make (I shoot Nikon). What you pick is down to personal preference (or, if you already have friends/relatives that shoot a particular brand, that can be handy for swapping lenses etc).

They are just as good as Nikon (or Sony, or Pentax).

If you've already decided that's what you want, then it'll be fine - go ahead.

But if you're not sure, it's worth going to a proper camera store and trying out a few makes/models within your budget to see what suits YOU. Check for button positions, menu choices, weight & general 'feel' in your hands. Buy what feels best for you.

Of course Canon cameras and lenses are as good as other brands. There are more manufacturers than just Canon and Nikon to choose fom. All DSLRs are good. Brands are irrelevant. And both Canon and Nikon cameras (and most other brands) can use third party lenses. They are not limited to only lenses made by the camera manufacturer.

All camera manufacturers produce quality cameras.

I'm a Canon shooter but I'll shoot with whatever you put in my hands be it Canon, Nikon, Sony, Olympus… It really doesn't matter. They all produce cameras that are more or less equivalent.

In terms of lenses and accessories, Canon and Nikon have the widest array of lenses and peripherals and both brands have almost identical offerings in terms of lenses.

It all comes down to ergonomic preferences really.
