Can I get a Nikon warranty on a camera bought elsewhere?
If I were to buy a "Genuine Nikon USA factory refurbished" camera from an eBay seller(one with over 99% positive feedback), could I get a warranty for it through Nikon? How much would a warranty cost?
A warranty comes with the camera at purchase, if the supplier doesn't issue a warranty with it at the point of sale then you can't buy one from Nikon… Doesn't the refurbished camera come with some sort of warranty?
Refurbished lenses have a 90 day warranty. New lenses have a 5yr warranty.
Buying a refurbished lens is OK (I have bought several), but only if the price is at least 25% less. Otherwise you might as well buy a new lens.
If you buy a lens from either Roberts Camera or Cameta Camera, they will add a free 6mo or 12mo store warranty to the Nikon 90 day warranty.
Camera manufacturers (Nikon, Canon, etc.) do not sell warranties as retail stores do. What these manufacturers do is "include" a warranty for a period of a year where they stand behind their product as to usability, not for abuse such as dropping! Refurbished cameras usually do not include any kind of warranty. So it is YOUR responsibility to check the camera out when you receive it, the same day! Other wise you are out of luck. If the eBay seller does not indicate a warranty in his ad, there's no warranty.
