Can a Nikon lens work on a Cannon?

I have a nikon d 40 with a great lens however, I want to upgrade and was wondering if my lens would work on a Cannon EOS?

No, Nikon lenses work on Nikon cameras. Why not upgrade to a new Nikon DSLR?

Are you trying to use the lens as a rangefinder for the Cannon? Even if it does work once the recoil as the munitions are fired will probably damage the lens!
Cannon: Used for firing large shot
Canon: A manufacturing company that builds cameras amongst other things.

A Nikon D3200 would be a better choice. You can then use the D40 body as a back up.

Yes, with converter. But most converter can't autofocus.

No Nikon lenses are too small for today's cannon, they won't even fit the Canon cameras!

Of course it won't work on a big gun - it won't fit a CANON camera either.

The Nikon F mount is narrower than the Canon EOS mount. For that reason there are adapters that can put a Nikon lens on a Canon body. It can be more trouble that its worth with no autofocus or metering. If the lens is a G lens, you need to choose the right adapter that makes up for the lack of an aperture ring, because there's no electronic control of aperture through the adapters.

Yes.
Though it will most certainly be fragmented as it escapes the barrel.

Smile!
Mixing systems is not worth it unless you know exactly what you are doing. You would be better off if you stick to Nikon.
