Buying a refurbished camera, good idea?

So I've been wanting to buy a new camera that's in a specific price range, and I found a Nikon 1 J1 camera for the perfect price! The thing is that it's on eBay and it says that it is Manufactured Refurbished? Is it a good idea to buy it? Or should I just buy a cheaper camera brand new?

Sure.

Many pros buy refurbished cameras when they need a second or third camera body.

Refurbished cameras are fine. I have bought them before. The main difference is the warranty is only 90 days, vs. 1 year for normal products.

However, be absolutely certain the camera is Nikon factory refurbished. I would not buy a refurbished camera any other way.

Refurbished cameras are fine as long as the work was done by the manufacturer.
I'd avoid the J1 though. You'd be much better off with a Nikon D3100.
