A good quality camera for an amateur photographer?

I'm very interested in photography with things such as nature and sunsets, and my phone camera just doesn't do it for me anymore. I also want to invest in a good quality camera for general use. I have been looking at some such as the Nikon P600 or l830, as they are in my price range. Would these be suitable for what I'm looking for? If not, can anyone suggest a good quality bridge camera for under 400?

The P600 is certainly a more robust camera than the L830, no question and probably worth the added cost if you intend to use it for many years.

I'm guessing that you have already visited the Nikon website and compared the features of the two.
